How to Inspect Solar Street Light Quality Before Shipment from China

Over 80% of solar street lights sold globally are manufactured in China. Quality varies enormously between factories. A pre-shipment inspection by a qualified third party can prevent costly quality failures from reaching your project site.

Solar street light quality inspection before shipment from China

Why Pre-Shipment Inspection Is Essential

Solar street lights are complex electro-mechanical systems with multiple components that can fail independently: LED chips, drivers, solar panels, batteries, controllers, and housing. A product that passes visual inspection may still have substandard LED efficacy, undersized battery capacity, or inadequate IP sealing. Pre-shipment inspection by an accredited agency (SGS, Bureau Veritas, Intertek) provides independent verification before goods leave the factory.

Key Inspection Points

ComponentTest MethodAcceptance Criteria
LED EfficacyIntegrating sphere measurement≥130 lm/W (minimum), ≥150 lm/W (preferred)
Battery CapacityFull charge/discharge cycle≥95% of rated capacity
IP RatingWater jet test per IEC 60529IP66 minimum, no water ingress
Solar Panel PowerFlash test at STC≥95% of rated Wp
Controller FunctionOperational testAll modes functional, correct timing

Documentation Requirements

Require the following documentation from any solar street light supplier: CE Declaration of Conformity, IEC 62717 test report for LED modules, IEC 62124 test report for the complete system, IP66 test certificate from an accredited laboratory, and battery UN38.3 transport certification.
